Hey there Voices of the Bench community, this is Trish Jones with Ivoclar. If you've been curious about fast-firing zirconia to improve efficiency but aren't convinced it can deliver predictable, high-quality results, I'd encourage you to connect with us. Our new IPS Emax Zirconia offers multiple fast-fire protocols designed to help save you valuable production time while maintaining consistent results. Time is money in every lab. Don't wait. Reach out to your local Ivoclar rep today and discover how IPS Emax Zirconia can help streamline your workflow.

As full-arch dentistry continues to grow, so do the demands on today's dental laboratories. That's why Knight Dental recently launched SimplyARCH Studio, a dedicated production environment built exclusively for full-arch restorations. To support this specialized workflow, Knight invested in an XTCERA milling system and carefully evaluated multiple CAM software solutions before choosing hyperDENT. The decision came down to exceptional milling quality, minimal hand finishing, and impressive production efficiency. But what truly set hyperDENT apart was the implementation process. From the very beginning, the team provided more than software training—they shared the knowledge and experience needed to build an optimized workflow for complex full-arch cases. With proven expertise in advanced milling strategies and laboratory production, hyperDENT helped ensure SimplyARCH Studio was designed for long-term success from day one.Matt Everatt joins Elvis and Barb for a fascinating conversation that takes a deep dive into his journey through the dental laboratory industry and the story behind his book, The Invisible Profession. From discovering dental technology at 16 and specializing in maxillofacial prosthetics and orthodontics to working in hospitals, developing early sleep-apnea appliances, and nearly leaving the profession altogether, Matt's career has taken some seriously interesting turns. Eventually, he helped co-found S4S, building a successful business around sleep-apnea appliances, occlusal splints, orthodontics, and more before eventually stepping away from ownership.

Matt Everatt joins Elvis and Barb for a fascinating conversation that takes a deep dive into his journey through the dental laboratory industry and the story behind his book, The Invisible Profession.

But this conversation goes far beyond Matt's career. His book, The Invisible Profession, explores how the dental laboratory industry arrived at a place where technicians and laboratories are often undervalued, pushed into price competition, and expected to simply keep their heads down and produce. Matt shares his thoughts on the "million little things" that shaped the industry, the danger of becoming a "busy fool," and why laboratories need to stop competing solely on price and start becoming known for the value, expertise, and partnership they bring to the dental team. Elvis, Barb, and Matt also talk about the changing landscape of digital dentistry, AI, 3D printing, speed, service, and why the labs that embrace change and remain agile will be the ones positioned for the future. It's an honest, thought-provoking, and ultimately optimistic conversation about where the dental laboratory profession has been, where it is today, and where it can go next. Special Guest: Matt Everatt.

<itunes:subtitle>A very common and popular partial option is the flexible partial. But for labs, they are not the easiest to make. Justin Marks from Arfona Printing is here to help. The grandson of the creator of Valplast has created a way to print a flexible partial and to make all of our lives better.</itunes:subtitle>

Remakes. Adjustments. More Adjustments. Maybe other labs can do flexible partials with ease, but the ones we talk to can't. Doesn't matter which system you use, flexibles in general have a higher remake or adjustment number. With the growing popularity of digital dentistry with removables, it is about time someone stepped up to make a printable flexible partial. Justin Marks from Arfona Printing has developed the first printed Valplast flexible partial. Justin's grandfather created the first flexible and the family has been carrying on the Valplast legacy. Justin decided that the need of the industry was not just the product, but an ease of service. Justin comes on the podcast to talk about his history of Valplast, the workflow for labs to send to Arfona, and the new faciating method he has developed to print a flexible Valplast partial.

Al Siblani created EnvisionTEC out of years of experience in the automotive industry printing wooden molds. Expanding on the idea and seeing a need in other industries, Al disrupted other markets before introducing it to the dental industry. It also provides faster heating.

The glove-friendly, easy-to-use touchscreen includes status indicators for heat, lamps, and the door to the large capacity chamber and it features One-touch presets, customizable settings, a timer (5 Minutes - 12 Hours), a temperature controller (30 - 80˚C), and an auto-start and shut down mode.

This podcast is all about featuring people from and associated with our industry. But it's not very often that we get to talk with someone that 100% of the people in dentistry have heard of. Jim Glidwell from Glidewell Laboratories, comes on the podcast to talk about how he accidently and without a plan grew to be one of the largest and most successful dental laboratories in the world with multiple locations worldwide. Jim is a technician at heart that explains that you have to "constantly mess up" to deal with the "Constant Change". From his kitchen table to 5,000+ employees, there is sure to be something learned from him. Jim talks about the importance of advertising, popularizing monolithic zirconia, how COVID affected him personally and the lab, and his new book coming out December 8th "Constant Change"

Order the book "Constant Change: Adventures in business and life – my journey from start-up to 5,000 employees" today!

The UP 3D P5 milling maching from Aurident is a 5 axis, efficient, dry mill. Great for milling zirconia, PMMA and wax. It boasts software that produces high precision and fast milling. It can mill a crown in 14 minutes and the tool life yields about 60-80 hours of quality restorations. A game changer for labs of all sizes, big and small. For under $20K, a small lab can now do their own milling instead of outsourcing and reducing their profits. Quite impressive! Give Aurident a call at 800-422-7373 or you can visit their website at aurident.com.

Whip Mix has developed VeriSplint OS, a popular 3D printed resin that is rigid, durable and affordable. This popular resin was the first 510K accepted splint material that is transparent, biocompatible and polishes to a high, clear shine.

All of this, and a low cost, averaging between $5.00 - $6.00 per splint.

Dental Technicians, learn about a possible career path. This weekend is the National Denturist Association Virtual Conference - October 16-17, 2020. CHECK IT OUT!

Vincent Silva is a technician that saw a need for computers being built specifically for dental CAD/CAM systems. Jed Archibald is a mega technician with experiences most of us could only dream of having. Putting these two together, we end up with a very exciting new format for dental laboratories to expand their resources. Imagine having a mill go down. You can put on your VR goggles and have a trained technician show you in real (3D) times how to make the repair yourself to keep production going. Imagine attending an in-person hands of training seminar without leaving your lab. Keep an eye on these two. We have a feeling it's only going to get better.

The CDT Designation sets certified dental technicians apart from others in their field demonstrating a mastery of knowledge and applied skills in the art of dentistry. Certification also raises the standards of dental health through education in all aspects of dental technology. At Dental Services Group, they believe dentistry plays a significant role in the healthcare ecosystem and is committed to providing solutions to benefit the overall health and wellbeing of the patient.

Last week Elvis printed custom trays on his new FormLabs Form 3B printer. Easy to print, transparent, and stong material was a game changer for the difficult and large cases that require a good custom tray to start. Head over to formlabs.com/VFTB and they can send you something printed on a Form 3B printer.

There are names in our industry that almost everyone knows. One of those names is Peter Pizzi. Maybe you have seen him speak? Maybe you read his articles in the IDT magazine, that he is editor-in-chief of? Elvis and Barb had a fantastic casual conversation with Peter as he tells them about the early days of getting into dental technology, who was his influencers and where he picked up his skill. They also talk about how he puts his lectures together, how he got hooked up with Inside Dental Technology magazine, and what he thinks we should be doing as a profession to ensure that we survive all the changes happening.

Kettenbach is a company that wants to partner with your lab to make sure you are getting the impressions you need. You know dental offices often ask dental labs what they recommend for impression material. Tell them with confidence a material that backed with amazing customer service and proven results. Give them a call at 877-532-2123 and mention the code Dental Lab Podcast 25 to get 25% off your order

May 21st: 2:00 - 3:00 EST
Barbara Warner Wojdan, CDT, AAACD: Mike Cash, CDT, Rudy Ramirez, and Larry Weiss, CPA

Elvis and Barb wanted to bring a perspective of the pandemic response from the vendor side of things. Elvis talked to Pat Higgins, who is the new Vice President of Marketing and New Business Development at Whip Mix. Pat comes on to talk about what Whip Mix did when the pandemic started, what they are doing during, and what they have planned for the future.

Two things in life are certain. Bad dentist equals bad impressions and taxes. We talked to two CPAs about dental laboratories maximizing tax credits from their research and experimentation. Adam Herman and Doug Kolker from Mueller Prost have been working with labs for a long time and understand our industry. They provide some wonderful ideas for labs to get some much needed cash during these troubled times. They also talk about how some labs can use tax breaks to help as they open back up after the COVID-19 pandemic.

What a *bleep*ing week. Hard to imagine that this will end and everything will get back to normal. But until then, the podcast must go on!

First up is an important update from Bennett Napier from the NADL (National Association of Dental Laboratories).

NADL Recorded Webinar COVID-19 Safety and Infection Protection Guidance for Dental Laboratories

Let's get a sense of being normal, shall we? Back in January Elvis and Barb, thanks to Kettenbach, got to go to the Voices of Dentistry Summit.
