DON'T MISS the dental event of the year, November 7-8. Nowak Dental Supplies (https://www.nowakdental.com/) is hosing NOLA Lab Fest (https://www.nolalabfest.com/) in New Orleans, Louisiana. Head over to nolalabfest.com to see the line up and to register.
A HUGE thanks to Aidite North America (https://www.aidite.com/) for hosting the podcast at their booth. Come find us and be on the podcast!
We are once again showcasing some wonderful conversation that we got while in the exocad (https://exocad.com/) booth at IDS 2025. It's funny to travel all the way to Germany to talk to two Americans, one of them even works with Barb!
First up is the CEO of the Leixir Dental Group (https://www.leixir.com/), John Krier. John talks about coming to dental from orthopedics and the differences he is noticing. Only 18 months into his new role, John has already visited every lab in the Leixir group and has started to change the culture of over 1000 employees to empower them to take ownership of the work they do.
Then we meet fellow podcaster, Dr. Jeff Horowitz. Dr. Horowitz has two practices in South Carolina, GP and Sleep and airway. He talks about the importance of creating the space in the arches for better sleep and how they are even expanding the palate on adults. Dr. Horowitz is also 1/3 of the podcast Dentist IN the Know (https://www.dentistsintheknow.com/) and tells us all about how a couple of dentists got together during the pandemic to chat about what they all love so much.
Take it from Jennifer Ferguson from Ivoclar. If you have a PM7 (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us/products/digital-equipment/programill-pm7) or are thinking about getting a PM7 (Take it from Barb, you should), Ivoclar had launched the "Ivoclar Block Module" that can speed up milling emax (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us/products/digital-processes/ips-e.max-cad) by 45%!! The best part is that you can try it for FREE for 90 days. All you have to do is send them a message on Instagram at Ivoclar.na (https://www.instagram.com/ivoclar.na/) or send a email to jennifer.ferguson@ivoclar.com. Now go mill emax faster!
Special Guests: Dr. Jeff Horowitz and John Krier.

Creating good culture in a dental lab is not easy. It takes dedication from owners and managers to set the path that the lab can follow. Two brothers both went through the apprenticeship program with John Archibald in the 90s. Darin Swartz was instantly hooked and opened up Swartz Dental Arts in the basement of a dental office after graduation. Followed by his younger brother, Mike Swartz graduated and opened his own lab. You would think they would partner up, but for 15 years they ran separate labs in the same space. After seeing technology coming into the industry, it was time to partner up and create Diamondhead Dental Lab (https://diamondheadlab.com/). They talk about doing their own apprenticeship program, growing to 40 employees, creating a culture of partnership and quality, how they stay relevant in ever changing workflows, and staying true to their "North Star"

We wrap up the episode with everyone's favorite person to see at a dental show (and if you don't know her, go be her friend), Nina Rapuano. Nina talks about joining Jensen Dental as her first "adult job", why she loves the people and culture, and giving back every year and swimming during the Race For the Future (https://dentallabfoundation.org/news-events/race-for-the-future/).

There are a LOT of full arch restorations being made in out industry. Usually referred to as an “all-on-X”, these are amazing life changing treatments that come with a hefty price tag and in turn a decent profit for everyone. It’s not super complicated to do a case, but a lot can happen during and after that will require the work of a team to overcome. Two dentists are changing the mindset in dentistry to make sure everyone involved is on the same page. Dr. Ryan Dunlop from Full Arch Masters (https://www.fullarchmasters.com/) and Dr. Johnathan Abenaim from X-Cell Dental Implant Center (https://needteethnow.com/) want to make sure everyone on the team understands the need to do it right. Usually teaching separate courses, Dr. Dunlop and Dr. Abenaim felt it necessary to join forces and give the unsponsored, truthful, and RAW look at what goes into giving a patient a good looking, functioning restoration. Both talk about why they got into teaching and what they have learned along the way like learning to customize the treatment to the patient, learning to communicate better with in the team, changing the status quo, and changing the mindset of dentistry.
Attend FULL ARCH RAW, August 8 & 9, 2024 in Miami Florida (https://fullarchraw.com/)

Paolo Lubrano was a fully licensed dentist in Italy when he decided he liked the laboratory side of the industry more. Moving to America, he now co-owns a lab (Bespoke Dental Lab) in a dental office doing some amazing full-arch restorations with some top-notch technology. Paolo talks about working with implants, doing chairside crowns, and somehow finds the time to train and participate in triathlons.
Whip Mix (https://www.whipmix.com/)’s new VeriEKO LCD printer (https://www.whipmix.com/products/whip-mix-verieko-dental-3d-printer/) sets the bar for high-speed, high-precision 3D printing. You can now print three times faster than other printers, while maximizing print detail and accuracy at 49-micron pixel-size, thanks to the VeriEKO’s 95+% light uniformity and 54 calibrated LEDs. The new printer satisfies all your printing needs with a 120 X 80mm print plate. Print temporary and permanent crowns and bridges, models and dies, surgical guides, splints, custom trays, and even dentures.
So if you are in the market for an exceptional and affordable 3D printer, call Whip Mix at (800) 626-5651 for more information. You’ll feel confident you’ve made the right choice with VeriEKO’s industry-leading 2-year warranty.

Remember Lab Day Chicago? When dental technicians from around the world could get together with our worry or concern. When the pandemic hit every show, event, conference, and symposium got pushed to a later date or canceled. Most moved until 2021. But not Texas! Texas pulled off a successful IN-PERSON conference in early October. Unfortunately Voices From the Bench could not attend... physically. But our good friends at Argen, set up a booth with a computer and microphone, and got a ton of attendees and speakers to sit down and chat with us. It was fantastic talking to people again with the feel of being in person. This week kicks of a series of conversations we are calling "Live, Not Live From Argen (https://argen.com/#/) booth at the DLAT (https://members.dlat.org/membership/)". First up we chat with Matthew Douglas, the president of the DLAT. Then long-time fan of the podcast, Lauren Blanton, who actually moved far away and flew back to attend the conference talks with us about multiple CDTs and the grants that helped her get there. And we wrap it up with Dr. John Buie, who was "forced" to learn dental lab work in school, still does it in practice, and likes to share it with dental technicians. So sit back and imagine yourself in an in-person dental meeting and remember someday, soon, we will ALL be able to do this.

The UP 3D P5 milling maching (https://www.aurident.com/p5/) from Aurident (https://www.aurident.com/)is a 5 axis, efficient, dry mill. Great for milling zirconia, PMMA and wax. It boasts software that produces high precision and fast milling. It can mill a crown in 14 minutes and the tool life yields about 60-80 hours of quality restorations. A game changer for labs of all sizes, big and small. For under $20K, a small lab can now do their own milling instead of outsourcing and reducing their profits. Quite impressive! Give Aurident a call at 800-422-7373 or you can visit their website at aurident.com.
The Form 3BL is the large format dental 3D printer that raises the bar for dependable high-production dental 3D printing, designed to work day and night with minimal intervention. A build volume of 33.5 × 20 × 30 cm (13.2 × 7.9 × 11.8 in) maximizes throughput for every print job. Print 48 models in a day, with only two printer interactions. Head over to formlabs.com/VFTB (http://formlabs.com/VFTB/) and they can send you something printed on a Form 3B printer. This way you can hold the proof in your hand.

This week kicks of a series of conversations we are calling "Live, Not Live From Argen booth at the DLAT".

The UP 3D P5 milling maching from Aurident is a 5 axis, efficient, dry mill.

Head over to formlabs.com/VFTB and they can send you something printed on a Form 3B printer. This way you can hold the proof in your hand.

Special Guests: Dr. John Buie, Lauren Blanton CDT, and Matthew Douglas CDT.
