Back out in the world! We are so happy to see dental lab shows start up again because we miss recording face-to-face so much. Elvis was down at the Preat booth at the Florida Dental Laboratory Association symposium last June. While working the booth, Elvis was able to chat with a few attendees. First up is Don Hebert CDT from Phoenix Dental Design talking about opening his own lab after being laid off during COVID. A great “rising from the ashes story”. Then we chat with Ricardo Marrero who is a young enthusiastic laboratory technician that is helping his dad run a satellite lab in North Carolina for a big lab in Florida called GPS Dental Lab. And then, because we love to chat with the incoming president of the FDLA, Dory Sartoris from DCS Dental Lab comes on to talk about how the post-covid show was and what the FDLA is working on to benefit the labs in Florida.

Larry has taken his years of experience to assist labs that needed the extra, "outside" help to either prepare for sale or to increase productivity. Jim Gorgol from Distinctive Dental Studio is looking at eventually retiring. Jim wants to make sure that he can do that comfortably but wants to also make sure that the employees are left in a good spot too. 139: Live, Not Live From the DLAT Part 3: Jason Stubbs, Bianka Nethery, & Mel Thorp

When you can't be somewhere, the next best thing is to talk to the people who could. That is what Elvis and Barb did in early October. Argen partnered up with VFTB to set up a computer and a microphone at the DLAT (Dental Laboratory Association of Texas) conference and talk to many of the attendees. This week wraps up all of the fantastic conversations from wonderful people who were brave enough to attend the first in-person meeting since the beginning of the pandemic.

First up is Jason Stubbs, who is amazing at getting the word out on social media about all the amazing things the DLAT is doing and also speaking at the event about using Texas Dental Lab law to get new clients. Then sitting down is a one-woman lab owner, Bianka Nathery, who talks about the pros and cons of working by yourself and learning the craft in Germany where she grew up. Then we wrap up the whole conference with Mel Thorp, who 50 years ago was in a horrible accident that led him on a career where he earned 3 CDTs and still enjoys working on the bench.
