The end of the year is almost here! The holiday rush is almost over. HANG IN THERE!
The journey to finding one's true calling can be as intricate as the work itself. For Carmel Vickers-Wall, a clinical dental technician from the UK, this journey began at the tender age of 16. Initially stepping into the dental field as a nurse, Carmel's path has been marked by a series of pivotal decisions that have led her to a fulfilling career that beautifully marries her artistic talents with her passion for patient care.
In our latest podcast episode, Carmel shares her story, offering listeners an inside look into the world of dental technology and the unique role of a clinical dental technician. From her early days of doodling horror-themed art in school to contemplating a career in law, Carmel's path was anything but straightforward. It was a chance suggestion from her dentist that set her on a course towards the dental field, where she discovered a passion for helping patients and a love for the artistry involved in crafting dentures.
Carmel's journey is a testament to the power of meeting the right people and making the right choices. Her decision to pursue an apprenticeship as a dental nurse allowed her to gain invaluable experience and insight into the dental world, ultimately leading her to the realization that her true passion lay in dental technology. The transition wasn't easy, but Carmel's determination and artistic flair have set her apart in the field.
In the episode, Carmel discusses the importance of proper impressions and patient communication, sharing tips and tricks that can benefit both dental professionals and patients alike. Her emphasis on setting realistic expectations and her dedication to patient care are evident in every aspect of her work.

We are starting off the collection of conversations from the Florida Dental Laboratory Association Symposium in Orlando, Florida. Last June the AMAZING people at Jensen Dental (https://jensendental.com/)gave us space in their fantastic booth to record some of the attendees.
First up is Enja Dorchuluun from Sakr Dental Studios. Enja talks about her history at Sakr, how they are using automation in the lab, and getting ready to move the lab from 5 buildings to one.
Since we were in the Jensen Dental (https://jensendental.com/) booth, we had to talk to the technician known for his amazing work with MIYO (https://miyoworld.com/), Bart Cothran. Bart chats with us about his journey into dental, owning his own lab, teaching MIYO to others, and some great tips for this amazing liquid ceramics.
Then we wrap up the episode with a technician full of so much passion to giving back, he's going through the board of the FDLA for the second time. Fernando DeLeon was in dental school in Guatemala when he decided being a dental technician might be a better fit. Fernando talks about his passion for changing a life, his passion for giving back, and his passion on doing the best he can for his patients.

We continue this week to showcase all the wonderful people that were lucky enough to attend the Whip Mix (https://www.whipmix.com/)Digital Forum (https://www.whipmix.com/special-events/2022-digital-forum/) in Louisville, Kentucky last October. This time it's two conversations, each with a past podcast guest that brought a friend. First up is one of the co-founders of Ladies of the Mill (https://www.ladiesofthemill.com/) and owner of Oak Dental Designs (https://www.oaksdentaldesigns.com/), Jill Swafford. Jill brings along her first employee, Eiron Simmons who joined Jill with zero experience. They talk about working together, moving into the new facility, and what we might see at the next Ladies of the Mill Summit. Then we are joined by Todd Hydock from Zest Dental Solutions (https://www.zestdent.com/). Todd was at the show exhibiting and doing a hands-on course with Dr. Michael Scherer. Dr. Scherer talks about his practice, his love of overdentures, the new Locator Fixed solution, and everyone's favorite shade? Great stuff from Louisville!
Two dynamic teams have joined forces to rock the intraoral scanning world! Whip Mix (https://www.whipmix.com/) has added the 3Shape TRIOS® (https://info.whipmix.com/en/3shape-trios-contact-us) line of scanners to its line of digital solutions for the dental office.
We continue this week to showcase all the wonderful people that were lucky enough to attend the Whip Mix Digital Forum in Louisville, Kentucky last October. This time it's two conversations, each with a past podcast guest that brought a friend. First up is one of the co-founders of Ladies of the Mill and owner of Oak Dental Designs, Jill Swafford. Jill brings along her first employee, Eiron Simmons who joined Jill with zero experience. They talk about working together, moving into the new facility, and what we might see at the next Ladies of the Mill Summit. Then we are joined by Todd Hydock from Zest Dental Solutions. Todd was at the show exhibiting and doing a hands-on course with Dr. Michael Scherer. Dr. Scherer talks about his practice, his love of overdentures, the new Locator Fixed solution, and everyone's favorite shade? Great stuff from Louisville!

Few things create more interest today than the Digital Denture. Whip Mix (https://whipmix.com/) has developed a processing system for printed dentures, which uses Dentca (https://whipmix.com/products/dentca/), the first 3D-printed denture and denture teeth resins to receive FDA clearance. Their physical properties and biocompatibility pass FDA requirements and enable the printed denture properties to be very similar to conventional dentures. The material, coupled with fast and easy 3D-printing with Asiga printers (https://whipmix.com/products/asiga-max/) and the convenience of curing with a Uvitron UV light (https://whipmix.com/products/uvitron-uv-sunray-400-curing-unit/), results in fewer dentist visits, predictable fit, re-printable data files, lower costs and excellent intraoral denture performance.
To learn how to create your own Digital Denture, check the Whip Mix (https://whipmix.com/) website for their Digital Denture courses and for more information about the system.

In this month of Appreciation of CDTs and Dental Laboratory Technicians, we can't express enough our thanks for all the wonderful people that sit down with us at conventions, meetings, symposiums, or anywhere else we might find ourselves recording live. This week is no different as we bring you two fantastic interviews we did during our visit at the DLAT (Dental Laboratory Association of Texas) conference we were at back in April. We sat down with:
-Jim and Samantha Emmons. Jim (CDT) talks about how much of his career has been teaching and inventing and some of the amazing stuff he has come up with and still coming up with. He talks about a non-aerosol spray on glaze and a way to do a shade analysis with a smart phone. Be sure to check out Spectrafire.com (https://spectrafire.com/) to learn more.
-Mac Perry from San Antonio leaves a great "First Impression" and talks about learning about dental technology in the Air Force, going to Saudi Arabia, and then settling down at his own lab. An amazing experience worth sharing.
Be sure to check out DLAT.org to see all the AMAZING things the Dental Laboratory Association of Texas is doing. Come next year to their AWESOME conference where these interviews were recorded at! (https://members.dlat.org/membership/)
Special Guests: Jim Emmons CDT, FNBC and Mac Perry.
