<itunes:subtitle>Barb and Elvis bring two powerhouse conversations from the exocad booth at IDS 2025 featuring two people that are changing digital dental design every day. Björn Zäuner tells the story of Bite-Finder and how it can lower remakes by up to 50% and then we chat with the CEO and co-creator of exocad, Tillmann Steinbrecher.</itunes:subtitle>

<description>When you think of huge advances in digital dentistry, a lot of companies and names come up. But there are two that are really making a huge impact on how we get things done and they continue to do it with the passion of the lab industry supporting it.
First up is Björn Zäuner. Björn grew up in a dental family and wanted nothing to do with teeth. We've all heard this story, right? It wasn't long before Björn had a milling center and even an ortho lab. But he noticed that miss mounted cases were a problem and a main cause to most of his remakes. So he developed Bite-Finder to use AI to find the true bite and not the one "captured" with a blue bite or iOS scanner. He talks all about what it is, how it works, how to integrate it, and how you can try it for FREE for 2 weeks.
Then we meet the CEO and co-creator of exocad, Tillmann Steinbrecher. We have talked to literally hundreds of people on this podcast that all sing praises for the "purple program" and this time we get to hear the origin story. Tillmann talks about how is started as a research project where he and his partner saw potential for so much more. From walking around IDS 15 years ago with a laptop with a early version to being one of the leaders in dental design, Tillmann in his team has really changed the way labs stay ahead of the every changing workflow. He talks about the early versions, where the name and purple come from, how it's important to stay an open platform, and the importance of user feedback to keep getting better.
Take it from Jennifer Ferguson from Ivoclar. If you have a PM7 (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us/products/digital-equipment/programill-pm7) or are thinking about getting a PM7 (Take it from Barb, you should), Ivoclar had launched the "Ivoclar Block Module" that can speed up milling emax (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us/products/digital-processes/ips-e.max-cad) by 45%!! The best part is that you can try it for FREE for 90 days. All you have to do is send them a message on Instagram at Ivoclar.na (https://www.instagram.com/ivoclar.na/) or send a email to jennifer.ferguson@ivoclar.com. Now go mill emax faster!
Special Guests: Björn Zäuner and Tillmann Steinbrecher.

<description>There are not many accredited schools left. They lack funds and enrollment. One school seems to be doing pretty good and they are positive about the future. While at the Eastern Conference of Dental Laboratories in Concord, NC, Elvis got to talk to three people associated with the program to get some different perspectives. First up is Erin Popov CDT who got into the industry via the school, graduated, and then came back to be an instructor. During the conversation, current student Jill Adams sits down to talk about why she signed up for the program and what she hopes to do with the knowledge after graduation. Then Elvis is joined by the 2020 NADL Educator of the Year award winner Greg Walton CDT who heads up the whole dental technology program at Durham Technical Community College. Greg went through the program, opened his own lab, and came back to help make the program what it is today.

Thursday March 26, the good people at Alien Milling (https://www.alienmilling.com/) is hosting a evening event to kick of the DLAT Conference. We will be at Top Golf for fun, drinks, and podcasting. That’s right, we will be recording at the event. How fun is that! If you are going to the DLAT conference, don’t wait. Sign up here to join the fun!
Are you excited about Chicago Lab day? Nowak Dental (https://www.nowakdental.com/nowak/) &amp;amp; Nowak Digital (https://www.nowakdigital.com/) are! Their lab specialists will be at the East Tower booth B-47 &amp;amp; their Digital specialists will be at the new West tower V-2. Stop by both booths to learn about all of their offerings and to find out for yourself why Nowak is the first dealer name customers ask for. Also, by popular demand, each location will be serving our famous King Cake Vodka shots one hour before the closing of the show EACH DAY! So don’t forget to visit Nowak Dental at both exhibit halls during Lab Day Chicago. And we thank you for your continued support of the podcast.
Few things create more interest today than the Digital Denture. Whip Mix (https://whipmix.com/) has developed a processing system for printed dentures, which uses Dentca (https://whipmix.com/products/dentca/), the first 3D-printed denture and denture teeth resins to receive FDA clearance. Their physical properties and biocompatibility pass FDA requirements and enable the printed denture properties to be very similar to conventional dentures. The material, coupled with fast and easy 3D-printing with Asiga printers (https://whipmix.com/products/asiga-max/) and the convenience of curing with a Uvitron UV light (https://whipmix.com/products/uvitron-uv-sunray-400-curing-unit/), results in fewer dentist visits, predictable fit, re-printable data files, lower costs and excellent intraoral denture performance.
To learn how to create your own Digital Denture, check the Whip Mix (https://whipmix.com/) website for their Digital Denture courses and for more information about the system.
Special Guest: Erin Popov RG, CDT, TE.
