Holly Wood

My name is Holly Wood, or “HollyWood” to many of my friends and family. I am the lead Ceramist/Dental Technician at SK Dental Laboratory located in Miamisburg, Ohio. We are a small lab, only consisting of four people currently. Sanvon, the owner, and best boss I could ask for, Amy our wonderful Administrator, Brian our talented CAD/CAM Designer, and myself. Together, we all make a great team. I’d consider us more of a family!

We are an implant lab primarily focused on AOX cases with zirconia direct to the MUA, along with most other implant related cases as well. I primarily handle all finishing post design. Some of what I do is: preparing cases for the day of surgery, checking fit ,staining/glazing all tryin’s, gingival composite, and finishing all the zirconia (from green state, to fit checking, porcelain build up ,stain and glaze). My personal goals would be to learn how do the fully guided as well as free hand surgeries. I’d also like to learn how to design on Exocad. I love this industry and I want to learn any and everything I can. Growth is such a tremendous part of what we do.

I got started in the dental field In high schooI. I attended a career tech center for Dental Assisting. I went on to graduate at the top of my class with several scholarships to Sinclair college for the Dental Hygiene Program. I completed a year before motherhood took precedence. I used to view not finishing the program as huge mistake or even regret. Now, looking back, I am exactly where I should be, doing what I love!

For the next ten years I worked with my father’s painting company, where I discovered I was a great painter. I subbed occasionally as a DA over the years also. When I had my daughter, I decided to go back to Dental Assisting. The dental world has always seemed to call me back.

I worked part time for a great dentist for close to a year. I couldn’t help but find myself intrigued by the crowns and bridges. So, I decided to call the lab just to inquire; how do I get into this in this industry? To my surprise, I was asked to come interview. I was offered a position and started out as a Cad/Cam Designer on 3shape. After designing for close to nine months, I started doing green state and quickly accelerated from there. I became the lead ceramist and lead tech over the zirconia department. It turns out I have a natural god given talent. I worked there for about 3 1/2 years before deciding to move on to a lead tech/ management position in a very small lab. Although it wasn’t a fit for me in the long run, my knowledge base expanded exponentially. I was pushed to learn and do tasks I had not yet had experience with. Further shaping me into a better technician.

Then, I found Sk Dental Lab! I’ve been at SK Dental going on two years now. I can’t say it enough, I love my job, I love changing lives, and creating beautiful smiles! I feel truly blessed to be where I am today and I look forward to the future. I’m excited to see where this industry continues to grow and take me.
